What Causes Bacterial Vaginosis?
Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is a common vaginal infection caused by an imbalance of good and harmful bacteria in the vagina. BV is not considered a sexually transmitted infection (STI), but it can be passed from one person to another through sexual intercourse. Certain factors can increase your risk of BV, including:
- Having multiple sexual partners: Women who have multiple sexual partners are at an increased risk for BV. The more sexual partners you have, the more likely you are to be exposed to bacteria that can cause BV.
